The results of the Bucharest summit did not infringe upon anyone’s interests, Zeyno Baran, the Director of the program on Eurasia problems in Washington-based Hudson University, aired on the Azerbaijani ANS channel. The issue is Ukraine and Georgia, which will to join the Alliance, as well as United States and Russia, which may support or oppose this.

According to Baran, Ukraine and Georgia should be satisfied. “Although, a decision on joining Ukraine and Georgia to NATO was not taken, neither were they denied to join the Alliance. They will receive the right to join the membership action plan (MAP) to NATO. Ukraine and Georgia have a good chance of joining NATO,” Baran said.

Russia’s Bucharest decision should satisfy these countries. The main aim was achieved to distribute a contradiction amongst the Alliance members using foreign political influence and block the decision on Ukraine and Georgia through its European allies. Washington included the issue on the agenda and did not believe that it would be adopted at this first stage.

Greece did not back Macedonia during the meeting and insisted that it changed the name of the state, Baran stated.
