Turkic-Speaking Countries sign agreement
An agreement in regard to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-Speaking Countries (TURKPA) has been signed on Friday by Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

The agreement was finalized after the TURKPA Parliament Speakers' Conference in Istanbul.
The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Koksal Toptan, referred to the agreement as the "Istanbul Agreement" and said that "with the establishment of the parliamentary assembly, an historical step has been taken to promote relations and cooperation among the brotherly people of the Turkic world".
The next meeting of the TURKPA will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan in September 2009.
