The former commander of the land forces, Ilker Basbug is appointed as the new head of Turkey's general staff at the end of the third day of the supreme military council meeting.

Instead of Yasar Buyukanit, Basbug has been appointed as the new head of Turkey's general staff in accordance with the general expectations.

Due to his age, Basbug will be serving as the head of the general staff for two years.

The supreme military council has also determined the other changes in the military rank.
