Turkey's Supreme Military Council concludes first day meeting
Turkish Supreme Military Council, convened early Friday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, completed first-day meeting.

The regular August meeting of the council began at the General Staff headquarters at 09:55 a.m. local time.

Gen. Yasar Buyukanit, the chief of General Staff; National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul; Land Forces Commander Gen. Ilker Basbug; Naval Forces Commander Admiral Muzaffer Metin Atac; Air Forces Commander Gen. Aydogan Babaoglu; Gendarmery General Commander Gen. Isik Kosaner; and other high-ranking military authorities participated in the meeting.

The annual regular board meeting discusses promotion of colonels, generals and admirals to a higher rank, extension of tour of duty of generals and admirals and their retirement procedures as well as dismissal of military personnel due to undisciplined and immoral acts.

The council will continue meetings on Saturday morning and the meetings will end on August 4th.

This is the last Supreme Military Council meeting Gen. Yasar Buyukanit is attending as he will retire as of August 31st, 2008
