Turkey's President Attends Millenium Goals Meeting in New York
The Turkish president participated on Thursday a millennium development goals meeting in New York.

Turkey's President Abdullah Gul attended the opening session of the "High-Level Meeting on The Millennium Development Goals", and delivered a speech on a round-table meeting on hunger and poverty held within the scope of the high-level meeting.

Gul is actually in the United States to participate in the 63rd session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

During the meeting, Gul said that Turkey decided to create a strategic fund worth 50 million USD to support the World Food Program of the UN and other assistance programs.

Gul said that the world had made a great progress to achieve development goals, but there was still a long path to take and that required concerted efforts.

President Gul underlined the key role of fight against hunger and poverty in this respect, and said it was necessary to set up a genuine global partnership in the world to ensure food safety.

Gul said that the success of world countries in eradicating food crisis and poverty would contribute to world security, and told participants that some measures like increasing agricultural production were necessary to combat hunger and poverty.

"It is time to implement these projects with a strong political will," Gul also said.

Gul also reaffirmed Turkey's strong commitment to millennium goals, and determination to counter hunger.
