Turkey's Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan said Friday that top Ukrainian officials were sympathetic to his proposal suggesting Turkey and Ukraine to reciprocally lift visa requirement for each other's citizens.

Issuing a press release upon his return from a formal trip to Ukraine, Toptan said both Ukranian President Viktor Yushchenko and Parliament Speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk welcomed the proposal.

Toptan said the current trade volume of 6 billion USD between the two countries could be raised to 10 billion USD.

He said interparlimentary relations between the two countries were important for further improving the firm relations between the two countries.

Toptan thanked Ukraine for its support to Turkey's candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council.
