Turkey Grows 1.9 P:C in Second Quarter
Turkey grew 1.9 percent in the second quarter of 2008, the statistics board announced on Wednesday.

The Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK) made public the growth figures, the Gross National Product (GNP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures in the second quarter of 2008, covering April, May and June.

The board said that Turkey grew 1.9 percent in this period, and 4.2 percent in the first half of the year.

The GDP growth, announced as 6.6 percent in the first quarter, was revised as 6.7 percent in the second quarter.

Also, the GDP was up 14.7 percent in current prices between April and June 2008, over the same period of 2007, and reached 240.8 billion new Turkish liras (YTL). (One USD is equal to 1.237 YTL)

In regard to constant prices, the GNP climbed to 25.3 billion YTL with a 1.9 percent rise.

The board also revised the year-end GDP growth for 2007 as 4.6 percent. It had earlier been announced as 4.5 percent.
