Turkey Draws Attention in Un Meeting on Iraq
Turkey was on of the countries that drew the most attention in a briefing on Iraq, held on Tuesday with the participation of U.S. and Iraqi Presidents, it was reported.

President Abdullah Gul who is attending the 63rd Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, represented Turkey at a meeting on Iraq held with the participation of U.S. and Iraqi presidents and heads of state of countries participating in the coalition forces in Iraq.

Presidency officials told AA that Iraqi President Jalal Talabani thanked Turkey for helping Iraq and said fight against terrorist organisation PKK would continue.

Officials said U.S. Permanent representative to UN Zalmay Khalilzad praised Turkey for contributing to establishment of democracy and stability in Iraq. Khalilzad referred to Turkey's efforts to convince Iraqi sunnis to participate in the elections and said they were very effective.

GUL'S MEETING WITH WORLD LEADERS


President Gul also held meetings with Macedonian Presidnet Branko Crvenkovski, Albanian President Bamir Topi and Isreali President Simon Peres.

Later, Gul attended the dinner hosted by UN SG Ban-ki Moon in honor of Heads of State attending the General Assembly session.
