Turkey's official religious institution said Wednesday that Islam and its egalitarian, libertarian and equitable message is facing another "strife" because of the movie "Fitna", an anti-Islam film produced and released on the internet by a Dutch politician.

Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders, leader of Netherland's Freedom Party, launched the anti-Islam film "Fitna", which means "strife" in Arabic, last week on the internet.

"The film contains direct insult to Koran and Islam and it incites discrimination, violence and hatred," Turkey's Directorate of Religious Affairs said in a statement.

It said Islamic world is aware of provocations aiming to show Muslim people as potential terrorists, discriminate them gradually and hurt their feelings.

"We believe that Muslim people will not be drawn into such provocations, aiming to cause fear about Islam, planned by some marginals under the pretext of producing documentaries and we believe that Muslim people will stay away from every kind of attempts and behaviors that would lead to tension and division in societies they live," the statement added.
