President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Mehmet Ali Talat said Thursday that "the TRNC is not giving up sovereignty but rather sharing it in a new partnership with the Greek Cypriots."

Talat said that the leader of Greek Cypriot administration Demetris Christofias made an ugly attack by saying that "Talat may fight against Turkey."

"The sovereignty and citizenship in Cyprus would be single and we will discuss how to implement a solution in our comprehensive negotiations," Talat said.

Reminded about comments made by Christofias to an Austrian newspaper that "Talat and I are making efforts against the occupation and dependence on motherlands", Talat said that Christofias was lying.

"Christofias made an ugly attack by his statements. His comments came so as to leave me in a difficult position," Talat also said.
