Family and friends of 14-year-old, who was stabbed to death in the city centre on November 12, paid tribute to him during a service at St Francis Xavier Cathedral.

Daniel's uncle, Bol Macher, described him as ``a social giant who was loved by most.''

"He was caring and hard working until that day. He loved his parents a great deal,'' Mr Macher said.
Brian Schumacher, principal of Sacred Heart Middle School, described Daniel as "as a young boy who we loved''.

"One of the finest attributes that we observed in Daniel was his deep love for his family, and his absolute commitment to them,'' Mr Schumacher said.

The Year 9 student died after he was stabbed outside a newsagency near Grenfell Street.

A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named, has been charged with his murder.

Yesterday, the Youth Court heard a 17-year-old grabbed the weapon that killed Daniel and tried to murder his attacker
