Ramadan to begin on Monday
Monday will be the first day of Ramadan, the UAE moonsighting committee announced on Saturday night.

According to the committee, chaired by Hadef Jua’an Al Daheri, Minister of Justice, Sunday will be the last day of Sha’aban and Monday will be the first day of the fasting month.

The committee said the Ramadan moon was not sighted on Saturday after using Sharia methods. The crescent was also not sighted after nightfall in neighbouring countries.

Ramadan will also begin on Monday in Saudi Arabia, as well as in Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Egypt. Libya announced it would start the fasting month from Sunday.


Al Daheri and the committee members extended their greetings to President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the other Rulers and Crown Princes.
