"Period of action for UNIW"
UNIW Secretary General Necmi Sadikoglu gave important messages to the Islamic World in the 5th Council meeting which was held in Kuwait.

In his speech containing some clues about the activities of UNIW in the next period, he stated that UNIW would be more efficient by reaching the geographical and demographical representation and they would be able to pass into period of action.

5TH COUNCIL MEETING ENDS

UNIW 5th Council meeting which was held in Kuwait on May 31-June 1, 2008 has ended. Many high rank authorities of Kuwait participated the opening session of the meeting which started with the recitation of Qur'an.

In the session, whose opening speech was made by Yusuf Casim el-Hacci Ebu Ya'kub, after the Secretary General Necmi Sadikoglu's delivered a speech, some presentations were made which give information about the host institution, International Islamic Relief Organization (Jamiyya Al-Khayriyya) and UNIW. After exchanging presents, the second session started. In addition to council members from 20 different countries, many representatives of non-governmental organizations and academicians especially from Turkey participated the meeting.

At the end of the meeting which lasted two days, action program of UNIW commissions were determined, and the foundation and function of the Committee for Combatting Against Discrimination was evaluated, which was decided to be formed at the and of the International Islamophobia Conference which was held in 8-9 December in Istanbul, the projects submitted to UNIW Council were evaluated and confirmed, assessments were made about 2008 activity program and 20 new members joined the union.

The last day, in the press conference which was held after closing speech, Secretary General Sadikoglu gave information to the Kuwait press about the 5th Council Meeting.

RESOLUTIONS OF THE MEETING

The resolutions adopted at the end of the UNIW 5th Council Meeting are as follows:

1. UNIW will be reached to the geographic, demographic and effective representation

2. Special campaigns will be organised for the introduction of UNIW

3. Studies for accreditation to International Institutions will be launched

4. Representatives will be sent to International conventions and formations

5. UNIW Councils' effectiveness and capacities for implementing projects will be advanced with periodic meetings

6. Committee for Combating Discrimination will be activated, which was founded to combat Islamophobia primarily

7. The papers and the outcomes of the Islamophobia Conference will be prepared to publish

8. Student exchange projects among member countries will be launched

9. International Non-Governmental Education project will be launched in 2009

10. Effective studies will carried out in the social and legal field regarding the problematic regions of the Islamic World, particularly Palestine, Iraq, Kashmir, Darfur, Somalia and Philippines
