Malaysian officials told the A.A correspondent that the Proton was planning to increase its operations in Turkey after the considerable growth of Turkish automotive sector in recent years.
Turkish automotive sector reached a record-level manufacturing figure of 1.1 million motor vehicles in 2007 by attracting attention of giant automotive firms. Turkey is expected to become the 10th country manufacturing the highest number of motor vehicles in the next four years.
The Proton also aims at entering European market through Turkey.
The Proton is the Malaysian national carmaker, which was established in 1983 under the direction of the former Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir Mohamad.
The Proton exports cars to more than 50 countries such as the United Kingdom, South Africa and Australia.
