Dotar player from the Khorasan region Nur-Mohammad Dorpur, the Whirling Dervishes of Damascus with Sheikh Hamza Chakour and Ensemble Al-Kindi, the Qaderi Dervishes of Kurdistan will accompany the band.
The French-born American cellist Yo-Yo Ma who is also the Artistic Director for the Silk Road Project and its founder will accompany them during the performance entitled “A Celebration of Rumi: The Sights and Sounds of Mystic Persia”.
This is the first time Iranian musicians are to perform in the Hollywood Bowl.
Following a week of rehearsing five newly commissioned works, the Silk Road Ensemble and Yo-Yo Ma will welcome the general public to an open rehearsal of these new works on September 7 at the Tanglewood Music Center in Massachusetts.
They are also slated to give the opening performance at a new arts festival, the Westobou Festival, at Augusta State University in Georgia.
The Silk Road Ensemble is an ensemble of internationally renowned musicians, composers, arrangers, visual artists and storytellers interested in exploring the relationship between tradition and innovation in music from the East and West.
