The United States took action to create a new global order using the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks as a pretext. According to many observers, the plans for this had already been made before the attacks.
However, in addition to a reason to justify the action, a theory was also needed. We now know that this was not accurate. The CIA admits that action was taken based on inaccurate information. It is not possible to imagine that an intelligence agency able to identify the license plates of cars in traffic by satellite claimed Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction based on false information and was misled by untested information with regard to other issues.
The most famous theory on the Sept. 11 events is the one involving al-Qaeda and Bin Laden and whether or not they were truly responsible for the attacks. Some operations were carried out based on this assumption are still ongoing. Another thesis was that the US, which wanted to initiate a global operation, used the attacks to justify its actions. Two views stood out on this matter. First, the current outrage against the US exploded when the twin towers were attacks and the US used this to its advantage. In other words, the timing was perfect. Second, some state units in the US planned and implemented this to create the pretext the US was looking for. There is no need to be a conspiracy lover. Statements by large media institutions, including those that provoked the war, democratic circles and the CIA all show that this view should not be underestimated or overlooked.
There is another detail that actually is no longer important because what happened already happened. Apparently the US took action to carry out an operation that would include and affect the entire Muslim world in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 events. About 1 million people were killed in Iraq, 1.5 million more had to leave the country and 2 million became internally displaced. Did this operation reshape the 21st century? Absolutely not.
Of course, the Sept. 11 events and the US invasion of two Muslims countries should be taken as the initial sign of a new system that will affect the whole world. The crisis that erupted in the Caucasus shows that our world cannot be unipolar. In the past there were potential poles. Now Russia has emerged, but obviously the world will not remain bipolar. There is "imbalance" in our world. What are the potential poles? The European Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the People's Republic of China and India. These are the candidates that seek to ensure internal integration. But in the current world the US is not the economic superpower. There are other rich actors, including the EU, China, India and Brazil. Up until recently, the US was very powerful in terms of economic and military might. It was able to reserve a defense budget two times greater than the combined defense expenses of the next 20 richest states. Today it is still able to do the same, but it is doubtful whether it will remain so capable in the near future.
In 1991 father Bush had said they took action to maintain a new world order that would last for a century. The order would be established in the Middle East. In other words, the Middle East would serve as the base for this operation. This could be considered as the third big intervention in history. The first was made by Napoleon in 1798 when he invaded Egypt. The second took place during World War I. The third action is the ongoing operation. This should be reviewed through an integrated perspective. The problem is not between Israel and Palestine, Israel and Syria, Iran and Syria or Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). The problem has both regional and global dimensions. Apparently the problem will not be resolved by any single global power. There is more than one party and now all are global actors.
