“Hand washing saves life”
The head of the Microbiology Department of Selcuk University Prof. Dr. Bulent Baysal said hand washing has a vital importance in the daily life.

Prof. Dr. Baysal, in order to warn the citizens and the health staff on the importance of hand washing, prepared little papers written “ Handwashing saves life” and that can be attached on the collars of them.
Baysal pointed out that “Hand washing saves life” slogan carries a vital meaning for taking the health issues releted with not washing the hands properly serious.

 
“According to the Turkish traditions people wash their hands before and after the meals and also they wash their hands after using the loo.” Baysal said. He also said, “ On the average people should wash their hands eight times a day, but can we do this? No. Most of us do not. However there are lots of diseases from the tuberculosis to hepatit, infected as a result of the microps on the hands.”


Medical staff must wash hands more

 
Prof. Dr. Bulent Baysal determined that the medical staff must wash their hands before and after any medical treatments. Baysal said, “ The medical staff must wash their hands more than the ordinary citizens. This habit is going to contribute on the prevention of the hospital infections. In case the hands are washed there will be no diseases, otherwise the medical staff infects the microps to each other.

 
Baysal also reminded that the telephone boxes, computers and all the other commonly used equipment include a lot of micro-organisms.
